SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Coming off a huge victory against a Western
Conference rivals, the Sacramento Monarchs shoot for their
third straight win tonight when they battle the expansion
Seattle Storm for a second time this season. Sacramento avenged its loss to Los Angeles from last season's Western semifinal with Sunday's 75-68 victory. Kedra Holland-Corn scored a career-high 23 points and Ruthie Bolton-Holifield had 12 of her 17 in the second half as the Monarchs knocked off the last of the league's unbeaten teams. Tangela Smith scored 13 points and Yolanda Griffith collected 11 and eight rebounds for Sacramento, which overcame 17 turnovers by shooting 43.5 percent (27-of-62). The road has not been kind to the Monarchs, who were 1-3 away from home as part of a four-game trip. Tonight begins a stretch in which Sacramento plays four of its next five contests on the road. Sacramento has not won three in a row since a team-record five-game streak from August 4-13 of last season. Seattle won for the second time in three contests Tuesday with a 69-59 overtime victory over Los Angeles to open a three-game homestand. Edna Campbell poured in seven of her 22 points in the extra session as the expansion Storm posted their first home victory in three tries. Simone Edwards scored 12 points and Quacy Barnes and newly acquired Michelle Edwards added 10 apiece for the Storm, who shot 45 percent (27-of-60) and scored 25 points off turnovers. Sacramento opened its season on May 31 with a 76-60 triumph over Seattle. Latasha Byears scored 17 points to lead the Monarchs, whose bench proved to be the difference by outscoring the Storm's reserves, 37-8. Campbell scored 22 points and first-round pick Kamila Vodichkova added 20 as the duo combined to make 17-of-36 shots while the rest of the club went just 7-of-24. These teams will close the regular season in Sacramento on August 9.
