Surprising Luxembourg settle for draw after Belarus equalise

Luxembourg and Belarus could not be separated in their Euro 2016 Group C qualifier as they drew 1-1 on Monday night.

Lars Krogh Gerson opened the scoring for Luxembourg in the 42nd minute and the home side looked set to claim the perfect start to their campaign until Belarus hit back in the second half.

Stanislav Dragun found the bottom left corner from close range to level the match at 1-1 in the 78th minute.

Both sides sent shots wide in the opening half an hour but it was Gerson who broke the deadlock shortly before half-time with a volley from within the six-yard box.

After the break, Belarus' Timofey Kalachev curled a chance over the bar from 12 yards out before Luxembourg keeper Jonathan Joubert saved Syarhey Kislyak's header.

However, the visitors finally got onto the scoresheet 18 minutes later through Dragun, after he got on the end of Kalachev's cross from the right wing.
