Stade de Reims 0-1 Nice

There was no dream start to life in charge of Reims for Olivier Guegan as his side were beaten 1-0 by Nice.

A drop towards the relegation zone did for Jean-Luc Vasseur but former assistant Guegan was unable to get a winning beginning as Said Benrahma scored the only goal of the game.

Results elsewhere also mean that Guegan is in a real relegation scrap, with his side only out of the bottom three by one goal.

Nice made the perfect start when, with just four minutes on the clock, Benrahma met Eric Bautheac's inviting cross to head Les Aiglons into an early lead.

Reims offered a response to the disappointment of falling behind early on but Gaetan Charbonnier's first-time volley was wayward before Nicolas De Preville headed tamely straight at Simon Pouplin as the first-half tamely petered out.

Soon after the restart, Reims went close to levelling but Fofana's header came back off Simon Pouplin's post before Gaetan Charbonnier fired the rebound over the bar.

The hosts continued to pile on the pressure and could have had a penalty when Romain Genevois appeared to bring down Nicolas De Preville but referee Mikael Lesage waved away their protests before De Preville brought a decent two-handed save from Pouplin, all inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half.

Nice dealt with pressure well, though, and almost doubled their lead after Valentin Eysseric powered beyond Mikael Tacalfred before Kossi Agassa came off his line well to block the effort.

The hosts had yet another penalty claim denied with 20 minutes left to play when Tacalfred clumsily brought down Alassane Plea inside the area but, not for the first time in the second half, nothing was given.

And it was Nice who could easily have wrapped up the points late on when Bautheac saw his effort pushed away by Agassa before Puel had his follow-up shot hacked off the line by Aissa Mandi.
