St Etienne 0-1 Lille

Lille beat St Etienne 1-0 at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard to leapfrog their hosts into fifth-place and claim Ligue 1's last Europa League qualifying place.Eder's penalty just before the break proved to be enough for Les Dogues in an edgy affair which saw the visitors claim their eighth league win in 10 games.Frederic Antonetti's side had an early opportunity to dent their hosts' chances of Europa League qualification with a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the area but Sebastian Corchia saw his decent effort pushed away by Stephane Ruffier down at his right post.Les Verts responded and Vincent Enyeama was called upon for the first time after 20 minutes when Loic Perrin's goalbound header from Nolan Roux's delivery was magnificently pushed away by the Nigerian stopper. Then, with half-time approaching, the visitors made the breakthrough when Rony Lopes was brought down in the area before Eder confidently dispatched the resulting spot-kick beyond Ruffier. And Eder should have doubled the lead just before the break after he escaped the St Etienne defence from Florent Balmont's throughball but Ruffier came out on top with the Swansea loanee clear through on goal.St Etienne had a penalty appeal turned down after 67 minutes when Marco Basa appeared to handle inside the area but Clement Turpin decided otherwise as the all-important leveller continued to evade the hosts. And soon after Les Verts were once again denied what appeared to be a decent penalty shout when Romain Hamouma went down under an Enyeama challenge but again nothing was given and with it went the hosts' chances of salvaging something from the game.ends
