Guingamp give survival hopes a boost

Guingamp climbed out of Ligue 1's bottom three and dented St Etienne's European hopes with a 2-0 win over Les Verts. The hosts got off to the perfect start when Jimmy Briand's powerful header from Lard Jacobsen's delivery beat Stephane Ruffier after seven minutes. And they went two goals in front after 24 minutes when Jonathan Martins Pereira escaped the offside trap before teeing up Sloan Privat to double Guingamp's advantage. The visitors struggled throughout and Guingamp went closest to the game's third goal in the second half, but Thomas Giresse volleyed wildly over from Yannis Salibur's delivery.
