Sassuolo do their part in bid for European football with win over Inter Milan

Sassuolo did all they could to make sure of a maiden European campaign as they ended the Serie A season with a 3-1 home win against Inter Milan. The victory secured sixth spot for Eusebio Di Francesco's men which will be good enough to take them into the Europa League for the first time if AC Milan fail to win the Coppa Italia final against Juventus next Saturday.Matteo Politano's brace and Lorenzo Pellegrini's strike saw off Inter, who ended the game with 10 men after Jeison Murrilo's 60th-minute sending off.Sassuolo took the lead after six minutes as Politano's shot from the edge of the area took a deflection off Murillo and wrong-footed visiting goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo. It was 2-0 20 minutes later when a fine pass from Politano played in Alfred Duncan, who squared for Pellegrini to score.Inter pulled one back in the 31st minute. Marcelo Brozovic robbed Francesco Magnanelli of possession before Rodrigo Palacio slotted past Andrea Consigli. But Sassuolo regained their two-goal cushion six minutes before the interval when Marcello Gazzola's right-wing cross picked out Politano, who climbed above Alex Telles and headed home.Inter thought they were back to within one early in the second half but Danilo D'Ambrosio's effort was ruled our for offside, despite Eder being the only man who appeared to be ahead of the last defender.Their hopes of a comeback took a blow on the hour mark as Murillo was sent off after receiving two bookings in a matter of seconds, his first for a foul on Diego Falcinelli and the second after protesting the decision.
