Sassuolo underlined their European credentials by surprising Lazio 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Neroverde, who only arrived in Serie A three years ago, claimed all three points in the capital city thanks to Domenico Berardi's penalty and a second-half rocket from Gregoire Defrel.

Mauricio's 41st-minute foul on Defrel allowed Berardi the opportunity to score from the spot. Later on, in the 67th minute, French forward Defrel rifled Nicola Sansone's assist beyond a helpless Etrit Berisha to rubber-stamp an historic victory.

Eusebio Di Francesco's men are now only six points behind AC Milan, who occupy the final Europa League berth.
