Stenny advance in cup

Stenhousemuir progressed in the Petrofac Training Cup with a 2-0 second-round home win over 10-man Raith. Two goals in the space of five second-half minutes from Alan Cook and Stephen Stirling sent the hosts through before Raith had Jason Thomson sent off in stoppage time. Mitch Megginson was denied by Jamie Barclay early on but it was Stenhousemuir who did most of the attacking as Allan Smith's shot came back off the crossbar before Stuart Malcolm and Smith again drew saves out of Kevin Cuthbert. They eventually got their reward in the 67th minute when Jon McShane set up Cook to fire his shot into the bottom corner of the net from the left hand side of the area.Craig Wighton tried to respond for Raith but Barclay pushed his shot clear and instead it was Stenhousemuir who scored again as Stirling fired into the top left-hand corner of the net.Raith's night was already a lost cause when Thomson saw red for violent conduct two minutes into time added on.
