Bordeaux survive late St Etienne fightback to secure win in opener

Bordeaux began their Ligue 1 campaign with a 3-2 home victory over St Etienne.

Jocelyn Gourvennec was in charge of Bordeaux for the first time after his summer switch from Guingamp and his side seemed to be coasting to victory after taking a three-goal lead.

Young striker Gaetan Labourde headed home his first Ligue 1 goal when he met Thomas Toure's free-kick after 13 minutes.

Labourde then set up Uruguay forward Diego Rolan after half-time before Malcom's 72nd-minute free-kick had Bordeaux strolling.

Romain Hamouma (81) and Alexander Soderlund (88) scored consolation goals to provide some late anxiety among the home crowd, but Les Girondins held on.
