Maitre scores 14 to lift FAU past UTEP 59-56

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Richardson Maitre posted 14 points as Florida Atlantic extended its home win streak to nine games, narrowly beating UTEP 59-56 on Saturday.

Madiaw Niang gave the Owls the lead on a three-point play with 41 seconds left and Maitre extended the lead with a pair of free throws with 18 seconds to go. Bryson Williams missed a 3-point attempt for the Miners that would have tied it with 8 seconds to go.

Karlis Silins had 12 points for Florida Atlantic (10-5, 2-0 Conference USA).

Efe Odigie had 13 points for the Miners (9-6, 0-2). Williams added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nigel Hawkins had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Florida Atlantic faces Rice on the road on Thursday. UTEP faces Southern Miss at home on Thursday.
