Knicks president Steve Mills on Ron Baker, released on Thursday to make room for Allonzo Trier: "Ron is a true professional and we thank him for all of his contributions during his time with the Knicks. His dedication and passion for the game are unquestioned and have been truly appreciated by our fans and organization. We wish him all the best."

Ron Baker's a great teammate & showed signs that he could become a strong defender. NYK coaches love his work ethic & motor. Whether it's the NBA or overseas, there will be interest in Baker. NYK, though, bid against itself when giving Baker a 2-year, $9M deal w/a player option.

Allonzo Trier's Knicks contract is the largest first-year salary for a non-international undrafted free agent. The previous high was Malcom Delaney, who made $2.5 million in his first season with the Hawks.

Allonzo Trier, an undrafted free agent, took advantage of his opportunity in New York. Credit the Knicks, too, for signing Trier to a two-way deal and providing him the chance to show he can thrive in the NBA.

The cap space for New York in 2019-20 now projects to be $29.5M after the Allonzo Trier signing ($3.55M cap hit). The room takes into account: 1) All free agent cap holds renounced except for Kristaps Porzingis 2) Waiving the non-guaranteed contract of Lance Thomas 3) Their own first round pick. The projected max for a player with 7-9 years of service like Kyrie Irving is $32.7M and for 10+ years like Kevin Durant $38.15M.

Allonzo Trier's two-year contract is for $7 million and has a team option for the second year, per ESPN sources. Ron Baker will be waived to make room for Trier.

The Brooklyn Nets also expressed interest in Knicks' second-year guard Frank Ntilikina, per ESPN sources. They and the Phoenix Suns are among the teams who have reached out to the Knicks to express interest in Frank Ntilikina. When PHO contacted NYK earlier in the year, the Knicks said they weren't open to moving Ntilikina, per ESPN sources. Members of the Suns organization were intrigued by the idea of pairing Ntilikina, the No. 8 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, with Devin Booker, sources said.
