Some notables from OTA #1: —Sam Beal was the first-team CB opposite Janoris Jenkins. He tipped a pass that turned into an INT and made some plays. Beal says his shoulder is 100 percent after missing all of last year. — TE Evan Engram was a frequent target. He's going to be a huge part of Giants passing game. —In the don't forget ‘em category: CB Grant Haley was the first-team nickel CB as a rookie and played well. He's the favorite to keep that role. RB Paul Perkins is still around. He can play a little bit. —Defense still missing that speedy cover LB. Tae Davis started alongside Alec Ogletree in their nickel defense.

Some Giants injury updates after watching practice and listening to Pat Shurmur: —CB Corey Ballentine was outside standing and watching practice. It will take time to get back on field after getting shot in backside. I asked Shurmur if training camp was reasonable. "Hopefully sooner," he said. —RT Mike Remmers (back surgery) worked on the side with a trainer. Be back for training camp "for sure." —LT Nate Solder not at practice after a cleanup in ankle last week. It "flared up" recently. Be back for training camp. —QB Kyle Lauletta had a "knee cleanup" earlier this offseason. He was at practice but did very little. Should be back soon. Some other Giants (Dexter Lawrence, Antoine Bethea, Dalvin Tomlinson) not at practice because of travel issues related to weather.

Giants begin OTAs on Monday. First opportunity to get on the field with full squad and practice with offense vs. defense. Also likely the first time we hear from QB Eli Manning since the drafting of Daniel Jones.

Starting left tackle Nate Solder had a cleanup procedure Thursday on his left ankle, per source. Solder will miss OTAs and minicamp. He IS expected to be ready for training camp though. Better to take care of it now than let it linger into the season.

Tiki Barber at CC Sabathia's Celebrity Softball Game: "If (Saquon Barkley) stays healthy, if he stays here, my records don't have a chance." Barber is the Giants' all-time leading rusher with 10,449 yards. He thinks Saquon can be "one of the best ever" and is a freak. if

Some more roster shuffling after the Giants made the signing of OL Mike Remmers official and signed DE Freedom Akinmoladun (Nebraska). They waived kicker Joey Slye and released safety Jacob Thieneman with a waived/injured designation after he hurt his knee at rookie minicamp.

Sixth-round pick Corey Ballentine reported Monday with the rest of the Giants rookie class and is partaking in some activities (classroom, rehab, etc.) Ballentine was shot in the backside the morning after he was drafted. His friend Dwane Simmons was killed in the shooting. Ballentine popped into the facility late last week but now he's officially joined his new teammates, veterans and rookies, in New Jersey.

Fifth-round picks WR Darius Slayton and LB Ryan Connelly signed their rookie contracts. The Giants also re-signed veteran defensive lineman John Jenkins. He spent most of last season inactive for games, recorded one QB hit in seven appearances.

The Giants have agreed to a deal with right tackle Mike Remmers, per his agent Brett Tessler. This was an expected move. Remmers has ties to Dave Gettleman from Carolina and Pat Shurmur from Minnesota. This completes the O-line overhaul.
