CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Goaltender Patrick Roy attempts to extend
his personal unbeaten streak to 10 games tonight when the
Colorado Avalanche visit the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Avalanche improved to 5-1-2 in their last eight games and appear to have taken control in the Northwest Division, opening a six-point lead over the second-place Calgary Flames. Joe Sakic has a goal and two assists in three games since missing last Wednesday's contest and is riding a 13-game points streak. He has three goals and 19 assists during that stretch. Chicago is coming off Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars and has dropped three straight to fall a season-high 11 games under .500. The Blackhawks have scored only three goals during their latest slid, causing the team to juggle its top two forward lines. Dean McAmmond moved up to the top line with Doug Gilmour and Tony Amonte while Eric Daze dropped to the second unit with Steve Sullivan and Micheal Nylander. Amonte and rookie J.P Dumont have not tallied in five straight games. The clubs have split two games this season with the home team winning each time. Rookie Alex Tanguay snapped a third-period tie with a power-play goal and Roy made 27 saves as the Avalanche topped the Blackhawks, 3-1, in the last meeting on January 15.
