RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- A rare weekday matinee game
takes place today when the Carolina Hurricanes host the Phoenix
Coyotes in a contest originally snowed out on Tuesday.
With airports in the region still closed, the teams made a logical decision to make up Tuesday's contest today. Following the game, Phoenix hopes to be able to travel to Washington for a 7 p.m. EST contest against the Capitals on Friday. The Hurricanes, shooting for their third straight win, have offered a two-for-one ticket deal and free parking in an effort to boost attendance for the makeup game. Each ticket purchased is good for two admissions to today's game, plus a complimentary ticket to the Montreal game February 17 and the Washington game February 21. Carolina has won consecutive contests since a season-high five-game losing streak, posting a 4-1 victory over Buffalo on Saturday before following it up with a 3-2 overtime win against Montreal on Monday. Rod Brind'Amour, acquired Sunday from Philadelphia for holdout Keith Primeau, made his Carolina debut Monday and was a minus-1 with one shot while playing on a line with Gary Roberts and Jeff O'Neill. The Hurricanes' power-play production has led to the two wins. After going 3-for-28 during a seven-game stretch, they have scored four in nine chances, including a 3-for-5 effort against Buffalo. Carolina's defense has also improved in recent games, surrendering an average of 19 shots per game. Phoenix has been idle since Sunday's 3-2 overtime victory against San Jose and is 2-0-1 in its last three contests as part of a 4-1-1 stretch. The Coyotes are one point behind first-place Dallas in the Pacific Division. Recent trade rumors have not affected Keith Tkachuk's performance as the left wing has produced four goals and two assists in his last six games. The Coyotes have not lost to the Hurricanes since moving from Winnipeg prior to the 1996-97 season, posting a 3-0-2 mark. The teams skated to a 5-5 tie in the only meeting last season.
