BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins hope to end their longest
winless drought at home in nearly 49 years tonight when they
host the Montreal Canadiens in a Northeast Division contest.
Boston began its four-game homestand with a 4-3 overtime loss to Calgary on Monday. After tonight, the Bruins host Buffalo and Anaheim to conclude the home stetch. The Bruins have dropped consecutive games and are 3-10-5 in their last 18 contests, but hold a two-point lead over Pittsburgh in the battle for the playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. All-Star defenseman Ray Bourque has slumped in his last six games, going pointless while posting a minus-4 rating. After suffering a 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night, the Canadiens were stranded in North Carolina as 20 inches of snow crippled the Raleigh-Durham region. Monday's loss snapped Montreal's season-long five game unbeaten streak. Despite going 4-1-1 over their last six, the Canadiens remain nine points out of a playoff spot. The teams have skated to a pair of ties this season, 3-3 at Boston on December 23 and 2-2 in Montreal on January 15, but the Bruins are 3-0-1 in their last four at the FleetCenter against the Canadiens.
