Would four on the road work?

Oct. 27 will be the day we find out what the proposed changes in college basketball recruitng will be, and everyone will have an idea.

I think it's very good that changes are on the way, especially if the powers that be can leave open the possibilities for changing the changes.

By that I mean, cutting down on the time it takes to realize something may or may not work and then scrapping the idea instead of taking a year to put it through the political ringer.

One coach already dropped a good, sound nugget. Currently, in July, schools can have three assistants on the road. The fourth assistant is often times sitting in a hotel room, perched to pounce on an event as soon as he "tags in" and one of three assistants trades places with him.

Cost wise, the whole staff often times "on the road" but only three guys can watch ball. Why not let the entire four-person recruiting staff watch games? The new model slices eight days from the current rules and many low and mids would argue this hurts them. I say (and I'm merely taking credit for someone else's idea) put all four of the guys on the road to do their job.

Henderson deciding on Monday

Over the last year, shooting guard Terry Henderson (Raleigh, N.C./Neuse Baptist) outgrew the tag "mid-major" and turned himself into a highly recruited wing. On Monday, he'll pick from George Mason, Richmond, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Rutgers.

One characteristic stood above all as he made the decision: comfort.

"I wanted comfort with the players, coaches and community," Henderson said. "Because those are going to be my brothers for the next couple of years."

Notre Dame capitalizing on USC weekend

Rest assured, many of the best prospects in the stands this weekend in South Bend, Ind., will be football players. The Irish host Southern Cal, their sworn enemy from the Pac-12. While it's sure to be a recruiting bonanaza on the football side, Mike Brey has his hands full with hoopsters.

Senior power forward Austin Burgett (Avon, Ind./Avon) is the lone official visitor of the bunch, but he won't be alone. Committed senior big man Zach Auguste (Marlborough, Mass./New Hampton) is on campus. Committed junior small forward V.J. Beachem (New Haven, Ind./New Haven) will help with the hosting duties of other prospects.

Juniors SG Demetrius Jackson (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian), PF Alex Foster (Chicago, Ill./DeLaSalle) and PG Gavin Schilling (Germany/DeLaSalle) are on campus. Sophomores Trevon Bluiett (Indianapolis, Ind./Park Tudor) a SF, center Maverick Morgan (Springboro, OH/Springboro), PF Gavin Skelly (Westlake, OH/Westlake), Payton Aldrige (Leavittsburg, OH/LaBrea) and SF Collin Barthell (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) round out the list of sophomores.

Freshman Jalen Coleman (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) is a point guard who hasn't played a high school game but is already being courted at the highest level.
