CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Ticker) -- Dan Ennis bolstered
Maryland's bowl hopes.
Overcoming a rough day, Ennis kicked a 28-yard field goal in
overtime to lift Maryland to a 33-30 victory over North Carolina
in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
Prior to converting in the extra session, Ennis had missed two
field goals and an extra point.
After Ennis' kick in OT, the Tar Heels had a chance to extend
the game but Connor Barth missed a 28-yard field goal. Barth
had kicked a 24-yard field goal with nine seconds left in
regulation to tie the game.
Lance Ball rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown for Maryland
(5-4, 3-3 ACC Atlantic), which rallied from a 27-17
fourth-quarter deficit to avoid its third straight loss. The
Terrapins need a win over Boston College or at North Carolina
State in their final two games to become bowl eligible.
Maryland's Sam Hollenbach completed 19-of-31 passes for 374
yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. His 80-yard
TD pass to Danny Melendez with 3:52 remaining gave the Terrapins
a 30-27 lead.
Vernon Davis added seven catches for 139 yards and a TD for
Maryland.
Matt Baker completed 25-of-40 passes for 335 yards and a
touchdown for North Carolina (4-5, 3-3 Coastal), which must win
its final two games over hapless Duke and nationally ranked
Virginia Tech to become bowl eligible.
Jesse Holley had six receptions for 115 yards for the Tar Heels.
