Dayton head coach Archie Miller landed a verbal commitment from Queens, N.Y. point guard Jevon Thomas, multiple sources are reporting.

Thomas originally pledged to St. John's early in his junior year but decided to re-open his recruitment last summer. The 3-star guard was garnering interest from Towson, Villanova and Penn State, among others.

ESPN's Paul Biancardi commented on the commitment.

"The Dayton Flyers made a huge pick up by landing Jevon Thomas. I saw him compete this past spring at the Chris Paul camp and he has ultra quickness with the ball along with super end-to-end speed that will put pressure on any defense. He's one of the better guards in the class at beating his defenders one-on-one. He does so with a tight, controlled handle, changing speeds with the ball and utilizing his blazing speed. He will bring an instant threat of offense and allow new coach Archie Miller to establish an offensive transition game

"Jevon is a talented offensive playmaker who needs to get committed to the defensive side of the game. That's where coach Miller can elevate his game to an all league performer. Not only is Archie Miller an excellent basketball coach but he was as one heck of a player as a point guard in college (N.C. State) who knew how to defend.

Thomas joins power forward Jalen Robinson (Columbus, Ohio) in Miller's 2012 class.

"Jevon should be a great fit,"Biancardi added. "This is the second one-time high-major recruit that the Flyers have landed. Robinson was committed at one point to West Virginia. At the A-10 level this us what you need to be successful."
