First of all, coach Tim Miles and his staff have simply done a remarkable job at Nebraska, finishing 11-7 this season in the Big Ten, which some believe might be the hardest league in the country. Every team has a potential NBA player on its roster except for maybe Northwestern.

The Cornhuskers have built their current roster with a blend of transfers, junior college players and high school prospects. Because Nebraska does such a good job of evaluating talent and seeing the big picture in long-term results, the Huskers get players who develop over time with their coaching.

Examples of this are Terran Petteway, a transfer from Texas Tech who averaged three points per game for the Red Raiders in 2011-12 but is now the leading scorer in the Big Ten at 18 points per game. A high school example is sophomore Shavon Shields, who is the second-leading scorer on the team at 12.7 points per game.

With the Cornhuskers' current success, it will help open doors to prospects in the ESPN 100 this spring and down the road, and Nebraska will have a real chance to land some. It's also important for Miles not to deviate too far from the formula that helped him achieve success.
