UA jersey tour: Tyrie Cleveland

WATCH: Tyrie Cleveland UA jersey presentation

Wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland was presented with an Under Armour All-America jersey on Tuesday afternoon, in a ceremony attended by friends and family and classmates at Westfield High in Spring, Texas.

For the No. 60-ranked prospect in the class of 2016, Tuesday’s ceremony was a reward and reminder that hard work and determination pays off.

“First and foremost, it’s a blessing to be in the position I am,” said Cleveland. “Getting to play with a bunch of really talented guys and compete against the best is a blessing,”

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver with 4.38-speed grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, before moving to Houston in junior high. The chance to play his final high school game in front of family from the Sunshine State makes his selection to the Under Armour All-America Game a special opportunity.

“It means a lot to go back home and play in front of a lot of people I know. I have a lot of family and friends that plan to attend the game, so that means a lot to me,”

Cleveland plays at Westfield High alongside five-star defensive tackle and Houston commitment Edward Oliver. Cleveland is looking forward to playing alongside his good friend in Orlando.

“Playing on the same team with Ed has been amazing," Cleveland said. "It’s been amazing playing against him every day in practice because he always brings great effort. We want to leave high school with a bang at the Under Armour Game.”

On the recruiting front, the Houston-area standout is down to eight schools with more official visits to come after already tripping to Oklahoma and Arizona State.

“I have a top eight of Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Arkansas, TCU, Florida, Houston, A&M and Arizona State. I will for sure officially visit Ole Miss. I think the rest of my visits will be after the season though.”

Six questions with Tyrie Cleveland:

What player are you looking forward to competing with or against in the Under Armour All-America Game?

I would say Levonta Taylor. I say that because he is a great cornerback, has great feet and loves the game. That is who you want to compete against.

If you could start a team with any player in your class, who would it be and why?

I would say Ed [Oliver]. He’s got a great motor, is a high-level athlete and great at what he does. He’s a great teammate.

What is your earliest football memory?

When I was five playing Pop Warner in Jacksonville. I played for the North Florida Rattlers. I played running back back then.

Which football player did you watch as a kid?

I would say Randy Moss and Dez Bryant. I liked Randy Moss because he had so much speed, and was a bully at the position.

If you could take on any pro in their sport, who would it be and why?

Darrelle Revis, because he’s one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. He’s got great timing and is very smart with his eyes and feet. He would be a great challenge.

What number do your wear, and why?

I wear the number 1 because I’m number one at what I do. Also, my cousin wore the number and I wanted to follow in his footsteps.
