Early efforts pay off for Memphis

Class of 2014 offensive lineman Chase Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch) has committed to sign with Memphis.

Johnson announced his decision, which has been confirmed by multiple reports, on Twitter:

His other offer was from UAB. Louisiana-Monroe, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss showed interest.

"The real reason is that [Memphis] was the first school to start recruiting me," Johnson told the Clarion Ledger. "They've been in contact with me since halfway through my junior season. They've been the school that has been recruiting me the hardest."

Memphis has three verbals.
