ESPN 300 defensive end Shameik Blackshear was presented with his Under Armour All-America Game jersey Wednesday afternoon in a ceremony sponsored by American Family Insurance. The ceremony took place in front of family, friends, teammates and classmates on the campus of Bluffton High in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Unfortunately for Blackshear, he will not be able to play in the 2015 Under Armour All-America Game due to a torn ACL suffered at the beginning of the season but will still be on hand for events and the game.

While fans won’t get the chance to see Blackshear against the best of the best, Bluffton High head coach Ken Cribb has had a very good seat to watch the gifted prospect since junior high.

“I got here [Bluffton] in 2010,” Cribb said. “I’m guessing he was in the eighth grade. He was a monster kid at that age. I watched him run around at that age and knew he had ability. We pulled him up to junior varsity and then varsity as a freshman. He was a freshman that played in the state championship game,”

South Carolina fans can expect to see a very talented athlete according to Cribb.

“He has a lot or speed, range and is quick off the ball. He just turned 17 a month ago, so he has a lot in front of him. He is a very talented prospect that can really run.”

Blackshear committed to South Carolina May 21 of 2013, and has remained solid in his pledge ever since. At the time of his commitment, he had offers from Florida State, Florida, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina among others.

Seven questions with Shameik Blackshear

If you were to start a team with any other player in your class, who would it be and why?

Blackshear: Arden Key because he’s a great athlete. He’s got the frame. He’s strong, he’s fast and he’s quick. I know he can get the job done at end, and sack the quarterback.

Who is the best player to ever play in the Under Armour game that you know of?

Blackshear: Jadeveon Clowney. I mean, he just showed up to the game proved that he was No. 1 coming out of high school, and then went to South Carolina and proved that he was No. 1 in college. No one else that has played in the game can say they did that.

What is your earliest football memory? What about college football?

Blackshear: When I was eight years old playing rec league for the Bluffton Bulldogs. I played fullback my first two years. I was mainly used for blocking, but when I got the ball I got some yards [laughing].

Which football player did you idolize or want to be like when you were a kid?

Blackshear: I wasn’t really into football like that as a kid. I was always a Giants fan, so every player that played for the Giants were my guys. I wasn’t into college football when I was younger.

If you could take on any pro player in their sport, who would it be?

Blackshear: I don’t really know all of the offensive tackles in the NFL. It would have to be Jake Long just because I see him on TV and he looks huge. In order for me to be a player and get to that level and be a great player, you have to be able to go against and beat the best.

What number do you wear and why?

Blackshear: Well, in high school I wear No. 7. It’s because I was born in the seventh month of the year, and I believe in lucky 7's and that sort of thing. I was 17 my freshman and sophomore year because a friend of mine that was older had 7, but then I changed my junior season.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Blackshear: I don’t even know on that. I think people already know everything about me. I guess one would be I don’t do anything for public recognition on Twitter or anything like that. I’m not one that is always seeking out attention.
