Defensive lineman Jerron Cage kept the ESPN Junior 300 streak alive for Ohio State when he committed on Tuesday. The Buckeyes had seven commitments in the 2017 class and all were within the top list prior to Cage’s decision.
Cage is the No. 200 ranked prospect and helps keep the Buckeyes batting 1,000 within the class.
The commitment also gives Ohio State the most ESPN Jr. 300 commitments in the country with Miami and Baylor in second place with five of the top prospects committed.
The class is led by offensive lineman Josh Myers, ranked No. 3 overall, and has six ranked within the top 150. The Buckeyes’ coaches have gotten so far ahead with this 2017 class it currently only has two less ESPN 300 prospects than Ohio State’s 2016 class, which has 10.
To say coach Urban Meyer and his staff are on a roll right now is an understatement. The only team to have more ESPN 300 commitments from 2015 to 2017 is Alabama, which only has one more than the Buckeyes.
From top to bottom the 2017 class is stocked with talent from Myers, defensive backs Shaun Wade and Marcus Williamson to quarterback Danny Clark.
The scary part for the rest of the programs out there is that Ohio State is far from done with the junior recruits. Receivers Trevon Grimes and Emmanuel Greene, defensive back Lamont Wade, athletes Devon Hunter and Richard Lecounte are just a few of the ESPN Jr. 300 prospects still considering the Buckeyes.
If the coaching staff keeps up with this pace, this could be a record class for Ohio State.
