Best of the college football recruiting visits: Big 12

With TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma State entering the weekend undefeated, the Big 12 was on the minds of a lot of top recruits. That was especially true at Oklahoma State, where the Cowboys used a 49-29 victory over the Horned Frogs to impress a lot of key prospects. Here’s a look at some of the top visitors at Big 12 schools this weekend viewed through social media:

Southlake (Texas) Carroll receiver Zach Farrar has seen his stock shoot through the roof, and the 6-foot-4, 208-pound three-star prospect was quite pumped to pick up an offer from the Cowboys following an unofficial visit to Stillwater Saturday.

Farrar’s scholarship offer was greeted with a bunch of likes and retweets from a number of Oklahoma State commitments who were also at Saturday’s game, like defensive end Jonathan Marshall of Shepard (Texas) High School and running back Justice Hill of Tulsa (Oklahoma) Booker T. Washington. But even a few undecided players, like fast-rising running back Ja'ron Wilson of Euless Trinity, were excited by Farrar’s news.

Across the state in Norman, Oklahoma was hosting a good group of visitors, including longtime LSU-committed four-star safety commitment Clifford Chattman of New Orleans McDonogh 35. Chattman has remained way off the recruiting radar since his commitment but showing up in Norman has to be a good sign for the Sooners. There’s also been talk from insiders that LSU might not discourage him looking around too much either. Oklahoma also hosted Texas Tech junior-college receiver commit Derrick Willies, who has been committed to the Red Raiders since mid-May but has been looking around at other schools in addition to the Sooners.

ESPN 300 defensive tackle Jordan Elliott continues to be one of the most coveted defensive players, not just in the Lone Star State but the entire country. Last week, Elliott called Michigan his top team and even lined up an official visit with the Wolverines for Nov. 27, but, still insiders love Texas’ chances with him. It surely didn’t hurt having him in the stands for the Longhorns’ domination of Kansas. Elliott and Nacogdoches (Texas) High safety Brandon Jones were the two biggest names on the Forty Acres this weekend.

Belton (Texas) High School offensive lineman Zach Shackelford is one of Kansas State’s top 2016 commitments, but his commitment to the Wildcats is going to be tested greatly. That’s especially true after the three-star offensive lineman picked up an offer from Texas while on an unofficial visit to Austin Saturday.
