Best of the college football recruiting visits: Big 12

Big 12 fans got a mix of game weekend official visits and schools pushing to land commitments from visitors who came to campus with a game to see. The biggest news around the conference was that Iowa State used its first recruiting weekend under Matt Campbell to secure two commits, but that wasn’t the only news, as we take a look at the weekend that was viewed through social media.

Iowa State fans have quickly learned Campbell and his staff aren’t afraid to share when positive recruiting news comes using the #SoundTheSirens hashtag. Cyclone fans saw it twice this weekend when junior-college offensive lineman Oge Udeogu of City College of San Francisco and Jatairis Grant of Akron (Ohio) Garfield committed.

Speaking of Grant, a two-star athlete who had been previously committed to Toledo, here is how he let folks know he was officially on board with the Cyclones.

Kansas State was one of the two schools that had games on campus this weekend, so it was no surprise to see the Wildcats double-dip and bring official visitors like junior-college offensive lineman Breontae Matthews and Abdul Beecham to town. Both seemed to enjoy their time in Manhattan, but look for Beecham to have a decision shortly because he’s a mid-term prospect who could sign next week.

Baylor also had recruits in on a game weekend, and the Bears’ weekend was highlighted by four-star defensive end Amani Bledsoe of Lawrence (Kansas) High School. Bledsoe has also visited Oregon, Oklahoma and NC State.

Longtime Baylor quarterback commit Zach Smith was on an official visit to Waco this weekend, and had a chance to catch up with future teammates in running back Kameron Martin and receiver Tren'Davian Dickson.

The Bears also hosted unofficial visitor Kellen Mond Saturday. Mond is also committed to the Bears and is the top-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class. With the Bears down to their fourth-string quarterback because of injuries, too bad Art Briles couldn't somehow sneak Smith or Mond out on the field.

TCU is one of the schools that brought kids without a game to showcase to prospects, but the personal attention and uninterrupted attention from the coaches was well received, especially by ESPN 300 defensive end and longtime Horned Frog commit Isaiah Chambers.

Along with Chambers, TCU also hosted Tennessee commit D'Andre Christmas-Giles and Michigan commit David Reese. Here’s all three together while on the visit.
