The SEC landed three ESPN 300 prospects during the past hour as we catch you up on the biggest news from the fourth hour of signing day.
Auburn with a huge addition
Auburn landed No. 100 overall prospect Markaviest Bryant in a big recruiting victory over LSU. Bryant is the ninth ESPN 300 prospect to commit to Auburn, but the first defensive end in the class. It also helps the Tigers keep a presence in Georgia, which was dominated by the Georgia Bulldogs in this cycle. The Bulldogs signed 11 of the top 20 in-state prospects.
Ducks keep poaching Cats
Oregon continues to be a pain for Arizona in this class as the Ducks kept poaching prospects from the Wildcats. After flipping quarterback Braxton Burmeister and athlete Darrian McNeal and landing defensive tackle Austin Faoliu after he decommitted from Arizona, the Ducks again struck on signing day, flipping three-star guard Cody Shear. Oregon needed offensive linemen in this class and found two very late in the process as the Ducks were able to keep Shear in-state and also land a commitment from ESPN JC 50 offensive tackle George Moore on Tuesday night.
Cougars with big in-state pickup
BYU has a chance to make a few statements today and did just that with high three-star defensive end Alden Tofa, who committed to the Cougars over Utah. That gives the Cougars two of the top five prospects in Utah with a real shot to also land ESPN 300 safety Chaz Ah You.
Pitt adds big man up front
Pittsburgh added four-star defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman over offers from Missouri, South Carolina and others. There was a significant hole at the position for the Panthers in this class, as Twyman is the first defensive tackle commitment for Pittsburgh in this 2017 group.
Baylor keeps building
New Baylor coach Matt Rhule took over a tough situation with the Bears and has built a top-40 class in the span of a few weeks. Baylor added defensive ends Justin Harris and B.J. Thompson on signing day. Harris was a big recruiting win against LSU, and Thompson is a former Washington State commit. The Bears put together a big run at defensive end to finish this class, as those two join defensive end Demarco Artis, who selected the Bears on Tuesday night.
Another standout headed to Tuscaloosa
Alabama scored another ESPN 300 prospect on signing day as No. 166 overall prospect wide receiver Henry Ruggs III selected the Crimson Tide over Florida State. Ruggs joins a dynamic group of receivers headed to Alabama, as No. 3 wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and fellow ESPN 300 prospect Tyrell Shavers are also headed to the Crimson Tide.
Teammates going separate ways
High school teammates Damion Daniels and Chevin Calloway committed moments apart, but will be headed to different conferences, as Daniels, a four-star defensive tackle, selected Nebraska and became the ninth four-star commitment for the Cornhuskers. Calloway, the nation’s No. 120 overall prospect and No. 11 cornerback, is headed to Arkansas, where he became the top-ranked prep prospect for the Razorbacks.
