Alek Manoah to make season debut for Blue Jays on Sunday

Alek Manoah will be reinstated and make his season debut when he starts the Toronto Blue Jays' series finale Sunday against the Nationals in Washington, manager John Schneider said.

He has not pitched in the majors since Aug. 10.

Manoah has spent the first month of the season in the minors after experiencing right shoulder discomfort following a spring training start in late February.

He's struggled to an 8.69 ERA in five starts across Single A and Triple A, but allowed just two hits over six innings in his last appearance Tuesday.

After going 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA and making the AL All-Star team in 2022 while finishing third in Cy Young voting, Manoah went 3-9 with a 5.87 ERA last season and was sent to the rookie-level Florida Complex League on June 6 to work on mechanics.

After a pair of minor league outings, including one in which Manoah allowed 11 runs over 2⅔ innings in an FCL game, the right-hander rejoined the Blue Jays on July 7 but was shut down for the season following a start on Aug. 10.
