Altrincham issue no Football Manager warning to prospective new bosses

Having parted company with manager Jim Harvey on Tuesday afternoon, non-league Altrincham FC wasted little time in putting out an advert to find the Northern Irishman's replacement.

However, the National League North side made it perfectly clear that they would be entertaining serious applications only and therefore decided to make a point of ruling out any candidates claiming to have gained experience by playing the Football Manager computer game.

You'd think that having to include caveats such as these was largely unnecessary but this is a truly bizarre world in which we live.

After all, it's not like actual professional football clubs hiring new staff on the basis of their computer game wizardry is entirely unprecedented.
