Giroud: Higuain a striker that gives Chelsea a different option (0:24)

Chelsea's Olivier Giroud believes the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain will benefit the club and the competition for places in attack can push them to winning trophies. (0:24)

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed he is considering the possibility of a summer move for unsettled Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.

Giroud told ESPN FC earlier this month that he has found it "difficult" to accept not being Maurizio Sarri's first-choice striker at Chelsea this season, with Eden Hazard often deployed as a false No. 9 by the Italian in the first half of the campaign.

Chelsea have an option to extend Giroud's contract -- which expires at the end of the season -- for a further year, but the France international told Canal Football Club that Gonzalo Higuain's arrival on loan from Juventus in January has left his prospects of staying at Stamford Bridge "bleaker" than before.

"I dreamed of having him come last summer and I even called Arsene Wenger for more information," Aulas said of Giroud in an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro. "Gerard Houllier knows him well, too.

"We had discussed it when I was in Moscow with the France national team during the World Cup. Things could not be done from his side, though.

"Right now, we have a lot of options in attack. If someone up front left, then a deal could interest us, especially because he has a different profile compared to our players.

"This summer, of course Giroud will interest me. It seems a little too late to do something during this winter window. We are not going to overload on forwards, especially since we have a really good team.

"We'll have to see which coach will be there for that moment at the end of the season, but I like the boy. He's a good person."

Giroud is considering his options and is not ruling out a return to France, where he led Montpellier to a surprise Ligue 1 title triumph in 2012 -- though he insists his priority is to remain in the Premier League.
