In the 49ers' ongoing efforts to bolster their depth at tight end, head coach Kyle Shanahan is turning to a familiar face. The Niners signed TE Levine Toilolo to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Toilolo played two seasons for Shanahan in Atlanta in 2015 and 2016. Primarily used as a blocker in his previous six seasons, Toilolo will compete for a chance to complement starter George Kittle. He will battle the likes of incumbents Garrett Celek and Ross Dwelley and 2019 sixth-round draft pick Kaden Smith for a roster spot.

The 49ers signed OL Wesley Johnson to a one-year deal and waived TE Marcus Lucas on Tuesday. Johnson was a fifth1round pick of the Steelers in 2014 and has appeared in 51 games with 24 starts since entering the league. The 49ers did a bit of tinkering with the back end of the roster on Monday: They signed LB LaRoy Reynolds to a one-year deal and RB Austin Walter to a three-year deal. Also, they waived DL Ryan Delaire. Reynolds is a vet, appearing in 84 games with seven starts since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Walter impressed enough as a tryout player at the rookie minicamp over the weekend to get a further look.
