Club America's Jeremy Menez suffers injury setback, out 6 weeks

Club America's French forward Jeremy Menez's injury troubles continue, with the 31-year-old out of action for another six weeks.

The reigning Liga MX champions announced Wednesday that Menez had undergone surgery on his left meniscus, just over a week since he returned to training with the squad after an ACL injury last summer saw him miss the whole of the 2018 Apertura.

The former Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan player signed for Club America in January 2018, but has only started 10 Liga MX games for the club so far.

Should Menez's recovery go to schedule, he should be available for the Super Clasico against Chivas on March 16 in Guadalajara.

America has already sold Diego Lainez to Real Betis this transfer window and was looking to bring in at least one more forward before Menez's injury.

The club has been heavily linked with New York Red Bulls playmaker Alejandro "Kaku" Romero, although the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement over the fee.

"Don't give in, sometimes it's the last key that opens the door," wrote Romero on Twitter on Wednesday, hinting that he is hoping the transfer becomes a reality.

Left-winger Cecilio Dominguez is also reportedly close to signing for Argentine side Independiente, although Menez's injury is untimely for the deal.
