Liverpool, Clyne a 'disgrace' after Bournemouth deal scuppered Cardiff - Warnock

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has called Liverpool and Nathaniel Clyne "a disgrace" after the right-back joined Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season.

Cardiff had informed Liverpool about their interest in taking Clyne on a temporary basis this month, with Warnock having worked with the player in the past at Crystal Palace.

But the 27-year-old opted for a switch to Bournemouth instead -- on the same day Eddie Howe's side signed striker Dominic Solanke from Liverpool for £19 million.

"I'm disappointed with Nathaniel Clyne and Liverpool," Warnock told talkSPORT. "To see on TV he's gone to Bournemouth when I've been promised he's my player is, for me, a disgrace and a lack of class.

"Having known the player and given him his debut, I'm disappointed, not just with the boy himself, but with Liverpool as well for not ringing me."

Clyne made his Bournemouth debut on Saturday as he played in their 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in the third round of the FA Cup.

"The reason I'm disappointed with Nathaniel and Liverpool is that I've [missed] out on three players because of that, by waiting," Warnock added.

"I lost out on a couple of full-backs and a striker, so I'm doubly disappointed.

"I probably should have been illegally tapping him [up], but I've done everything right and then Bournemouth come in. I suppose Bournemouth paying £19m for Solanke probably whetted their appetite a little bit."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been left with just one recognised right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, available for selection following Clyne's departure.

Klopp revealed at a news conference on Saturday that the full-back had asked for the switch to the south coast as he sought more game-time.

Warnock's Cardiff were dumped out of the FA Cup on Saturday following a 1-0 defeat to League One strugglers Gillingham.
