Burks runs for 3 TDs; Kennesaw State beats Texas Southern

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Kennesaw State ran for 346 yards and five touchdowns, including three by Chandler Burks, as the Owls beat Texas Southern 48-3 on Saturday.

Burks finished with 74 yards rushing on a team-high 14 carries and completed 4 of 7 passes for 74 yards for Kennesaw State (4-1). TJ Reed had two carries for 92 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown that capped the scoring early in the fourth quarter.

Burks had touchdown runs of 6, 4, and 10 yards, Justin Thompson kicked field goals of 32 and 21 yards and Texas State was limited to minus-12 yards rushing in the first half as the Owls took a 34-3 lead into the break.

Bryson Armstrong had 10 tackles, including one sack, and an interception to lead the Kennesaw State defense, which came allowing 69 yards rushing per game (No. 6 in the FCS).

Texas Southern (0-5) committed three turnovers, had just 171 total yards -- including 44 rushing -- and converted 1 of 12 third downs. The Tigers have lost six in a row, dating to last season.

Kennesaw State has won four in a row.
