Smith has big game as Campbell defeats Stetson 49-21

DELAND, Fla. -- Daniel Smith ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third and Campbell returned two interceptions for touchdowns, all in the first half, and the Camels rolled to a 49-21 win over Stetson on Saturday night.

Smith had 122 yards rushing and 101 passing as Campbell (2-2, 1-0 Pioneer League) took a 42-7 lead at the half. He scored on 11- and 50-yard runs and connected with Zach Roderick for a 20-yard score. Carlos Merritt and Deontae Henderson had interception returns of 37 and 71 yards, respectively, and the Camels forced four turnovers in the first half. Merritt had two picks.

Smith, who finished with a school record 179 rushing for a quarterback, also connected with Montel Goods for a 45-yard touchdown on a screen pass.

Stetson (0-4, 0-2) finished with 371 yards of total offense but had just 39 yards on the ground and had five turnovers. Colin McGovern passed for 268 yards but was picked off four times. Donald Parham had nine receptions for 157 yards, both career highs.
