Who's NOT gonna be around this weekend for the Open Championship? Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, and Jason Day.
Rory McIlroy couldn't climb the entire mountain. Needing a birdie at the last to make the weekend at Royal Portrush, he tugged his approach into the 18th and settled for par. His second-round 65 is 14 shots better than his opening round and one of the best posted Friday at The Open. Still, he will likely miss the cut by one shot.
Rory McIlroy had a shot at the 17th, but his 20-footer for birdie slid by on the low side. It's pretty simple now: He needs to birdie the 18th hole to make the cut. And keep this in mind: It's not just ceremonial. Last year, Justin Rose birdied his last hole in the second round to make the cut on the number then finished tied for second. Anything can happen at The Open.
