GAME DAY PREVIEW Game time: 9:00pm ET
Carolina at Colorado

DENVER (Ticker) -- The suddenly-slumping Colorado Avalanche may be without two of their skilled wingers as they kick off a five-game homestand tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes.

In addition to losing its second straight game, 4-3 at Vancouver Wednesday, Colorado lost top forwards Adam Deadmarsh and Chris Drury to injury. Deadmarsh suffered a mild concussion during a fight with Canucks defenseman Ed Jovanovski and Drury went down with a left knee injury early in the third period.

Deadmarsh is sidelined indefinitely while Drury's status for tonight's game is unknown. The pair has combined for nine goals and 14 assists this season.

Colorado's slump followed a nine-game winning streak and team-record 11-game unbeaten run to start the season. It will be looking to get back on track during a homestand that also includes games against expansion Minnesota, St. Louis, Anaheim and Pittsburgh.

On Tuesday, Carolina snapped a five-game winless streak with a 6-5 victory over lowly Tampa Bay. Defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh sent the home crowd happy by scoring the game-winning goal 2:35 into overtime.

Ozolinsh will be making his homecoming tonight. He spent the last four-plus seasons with the Avalanche, recording 72 goals and 253 points, before being traded to the Hurricanes for defenseman Nolan Pratt in June.

Carolina is expected to have goaltender Arturs Irbe back in the lineup tonight after he left the team on Sunday to attend his grandmother's funeral in Latvia.

Colorado has dominated Carolina of late, going 6-0-2 over the last eight meetings. The Avalanche have not lost in the series since a 3-2 overtime defeat on February 9, 1996.
