James Yap signs with Rain or Shine for three more years

Despite falling short in its title chase for the 2018 PBA season, Rain or Shine locked long-time PBA star James Yap to another three years on Wednesday.

Yap signed the three-year contract extension in the presence of Rain or Shine team owner Raymund Yu and board governor Atty. Mamerto Mondragon. The new deal means Yap will play till 39.

"He's very hardworking and has really helped the team as well on the marketing side. (He) never complains when we have promotional visits in the province," Mondragon told ESPN5 on Wednesday.

Terms of Yap's new contract were not divulged.

Mondragon also added Yap can still contribute to the team.

"We just told him to keep working hard and give his all. That's what we're asking from him," he said.

Yap, a two-time PBA Most Valuable Player, averaged 9.3 points and 3.0 rebounds during the 2018 Governors' Cup, where Rain or Shine finished 10th.

Yap, who won seven titles with the Purefoods franchise, is expected to provide veteran leadership once again for Rain or Shine, which added rookies Javee Mocon and Jjay Alejandro into the mix.
