2012 postseason top 25 players: No. 21

No. 21. Alex Amidon, WR, Boston College

2012 stats: Amidon caught a school-record 78 receptions for a school-record 1,210 yards and seven touchdowns, breaking Andre Callendar's previous record of 76 receptions in 2007 and Brian Brennan's previous record of 1,149 receiving yards in 1983. He matched Brennan's school record of six games with at least 100 receiving yards.

Amidon finished the season ranked 11th among all receivers in the country in receiving yards per game (100.8). He ranked second among all ACC receivers in both receptions per game (6.5) and receiving yards per game. He also carried the ball four times for 55 yards and one touchdown.

Previous ranking: NR

Making the case for Amidon: The fact that Amidon averaged 100 yards per game when it was obvious he was the favorite target and BC couldn’t run the ball was impressive. He was a first-team all-ACC selection by the media, and a second-team all-ACC player in the coaches’ team. He had a breakout season in 2012, and was easily the most reliable player on the roster. Amidon accounted for 40 percent of quarterback Chase Rettig’s passing yards. He was an invaluable part of the offense.
