LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears made a series of moves over the holiday weekend, claiming three players off waivers -- long snapper Andrew DePaola (Tampa), wide receiver Tre McBride (Tennessee) and running back Taquan Mizzell -- and signing nine players to their practice squad.
The Bears also released running back Jeremy Langford, tight end Ben Braunecker and long snapper Jeff Overbaugh to free up space on their active roster.
On Monday, the Bears placed defensive back Deiondre Hall on injured reserve and re-signed veteran defensive John Jenkins.
Here’s a look at those players who were signed with Chicago’s practice squad:
WR Tanner Gentry: The undrafted rookie out of Wyoming had a productive preseason for the Bears, catching four passes for 77 yards and one touchdown. But Gentry’s best moments came in practice where he routinely beat defensive backs for big pass plays down the field.
DL Rashaad Coward: Coward appeared in 47 games at Old Dominion, where he recorded 136 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Coward was waived by the Bears on Saturday.
OL Brandon Greene: The Bears signed Greene last month after guard Eric Kush suffered a season-ending injury. Greene played a variety of positions in college -- tight end, offensive line and on defense. He was a member of the Crimson Tide's teams from 2012-16.
OL Dieugot Joseph: Undrafted out of Florida International, Joseph (6-foot-6, 300 pounds) played in 41 games over four seasons for the Panthers.
LB Jonathan Anderson: Anderson appeared in 19 games (three starts) for Chicago from 2015-16, but he was slowed by injuries in camp. Still, Anderson is an athletic linebacker with enough upside -- 43 tackles, one interception and five pass breakups -- to keep around on the practice squad.
LB John Timu: The third-year linebacker started seven games for Chicago from 2015-16. Timu has good instincts at linebacker, and typically puts himself in position to make plays. Timu also spent the first three weeks of last season on the practice squad.
S DeAndre Houston-Carson: A sixth-round pick last year, Houston-Carson appeared in eight games on special teams as a rookie. The Bears envisioned Houston-Carson being a core special-teams contributor when they drafted him, but that has yet to happen.
LB Isaiah Irving: The undrafted linebacker had a solid camp and pushed hard for a spot on the 53. At San Jose State, Irving recorded 140 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and one forced fumble.
OL Cameron Lee: The Illinois State product spent time with the Bengals and Saints in the offseason.
