GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida coach Will Muschamp doesn’t have to worry whether new offensive line coach Tim Davis will be a good fit with the rest of the coaching staff.
Davis, who spent the 2011 season at Utah, has already worked with nearly all of them.
Davis was hired on Monday to replacing Frank Verducci, whom Muschamp said left the program over the weekend to pursue other interests. Davis has spent nine years working alongside four UF coaches, including Muschamp.
"Tim is a perfect fit for our program," Muschamp said. "He has a history of coaching in a pro-style offense and shares the same program philosophies.
"He understands the values that we put on the line of scrimmage and he will help us get where we want to be at that position."
In 2009-10, Davis was the offensive line coach at Minnesota, where he worked with UF tight ends coach Derek Lewis. In 2005-06 Davis was with the Miami Dolphins, where he worked with UF defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Muschamp.
Davis has worked the longest with UF running backs coach Brian White. They were at Wisconsin together from 1997-2001.
"Like most assistant coaches, I've been on a number of coaching staffs and usually there is a transition period when you join a new staff," Davis said. "I don't look at this as joining a new staff, having worked with coach Muschamp, Dan Quinn, Brian White and Derek Lewis in the past. I understand the shared philosophies of the staff and look forward to being part of the Gator Nation."
Davis began his coaching career as a student assistant at Utah from 1981-82. He was a GA and then a volunteer tight ends coach at Wisconsin from 1983-86 before spending the 1987 season at Arizona as a GA.
Davis moved to Walla Walla Community College as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 1988, spent the 1989 season coaching the offensive line at Idaho State, then returned to Utah in 1990. He spent seven seasons coaching tight ends, the offensive line, and offensive tackles.
He joined the Wisconsin staff in 1997 and coached tight ends for five seasons. He coached the offensive line at USC from 2002-04 before spending two seasons as an offensive line assistant coach with the Miami Dolphins.
Davis was the director of player personnel at Alabama in 2008 and coached the offensive line and was the run game coordinator at Minnesota in 2009-10 before returning to Utah last season.
