ACC has five in future Power Rankings

Florida State and Clemson reign as the standard-bearers for the conference, but when it comes to the future, three other ACC teams lay claim to spots in the top 25 of our future Power Rankings.

Our eight-person panel of CFB experts graded teams on five criteria, each given different weights, to determine the three-year outlook of college football's top teams. They used that data to compile the 2016 College Football Future Power Rankings (Insider).

  • Florida State Seminoles: According to our panel, the Noles are elite in current talent, recruiting, title path and foundation. When it comes to coaching, however, FSU is outside of the top 5. Don't read too much into it though, especially since the Seminoles rank No. 3 overall in the rankings.

  • Clemson Tigers: The party line used to be that Dabo Swinney was underqualified for his head coaching gig, but that tune has changed. We're wondering how the coaching staff will deal with replacing so many pieces from last year's defense, but that is simply splitting hairs. The Tigers rank No. 4 overall in the rankings.

  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish: The Irish are technically not a full member of the ACC, but they're close to the top tier in the rankings for another season. They're in the top 10 in four categories and No. 11 in the fifth. Overall, they check in at No. 9 in the rankings.

  • Miami Hurricanes: The ACC needs The U to be a big brand. Maybe with Mark Richt at the helm the team can finally return to the heights of the program's lofty past. Our panel loves Richt, but do they love him in South Florida? The Hurricanes sit No. 19 in the rankings.

  • Louisville Cardinals: The Cards stay put at No. 23 overall, the same place they were in the rankings last offseason. You may not like Bobby Petrino, but his coaching prowess has not diminished. Talent acquisition is what makes us queasy about the team's future outlook.
