AUSTIN, Texas -- Freshman forward Jaylen Bond has been names the Big 12’s rookie of the week, the conference announced Monday.
The Philadelphia native averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds last week in wins over Nicholls State and Temple. Against the Colonels, Bond produced the Longhorns’ first double-double of the season, notching a career-high 18 points and 12 boards in the 93-40 win.
He had 12 points to help get the 77-65 win over Temple on Saturday. For the year, Bond is averaging 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and has converted 25 of 38 field goals.
Bond is the second Longhorns to win the award this season. Myck Kabongo earned the honor on Dec. 5.
