Minnesota Vikings cut 20 players, including fourth-round pick Willie Beavers

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings cut 20 players on Saturday, trimming their roster to the NFL-mandated 53 players. Here's a closer look at the final cuts:

Most significant move: The Sam Bradford trade will define the Vikings' season, and possibly a longer stretch of time than that at the quarterback position. In terms of the cuts, the Vikings' decision to release fourth-round pick Willie Beavers wasn't a great shock, considering how much Beavers had struggled during training camp and the preseason. But Beavers is the team's highest pick not to make the Vikings' roster since Rick Spielman joined the organization in 2007, and Beavers' departure continues the team's checkered history with offensive linemen in the draft. T.J. Clemmings, last year's fourth-rounder, figures to be a swing tackle after a rocky rookie season, and the Vikings have already released three linemen they'd selected in 2014 and 2015 drafts (David Yankey, Tyrus Thompson and Austin Shepherd).

Most significant non-move: Wide receiver Jarius Wright, who signed a four-year contract extension last September, remains on the Vikings' roster, even though he appears to have slipped down the team's depth chart and has dealt with a leg injury during the preseason. The Vikings explored the possibility of trading Wright, according to a league source, but kept him on their roster after a solid performance against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night in which he caught three passes for 35 yards.

Böhringer released: The Vikings cut wide receiver Moritz Böhringer on Saturday, exposing the sixth-round pick to waivers after an uneven training camp and preseason. Böhringer, the first NFL player ever to be drafted directly from Europe, figures to wind up on the team's practice squad, assuming he makes it through waivers. His size and speed intrigued the Vikings in the draft, and the potential remains for him to turn into a productive NFL receiver once he gets more time to develop under well-respected wide receivers coach George Stewart.

Griffin, Price to IR: Safety Michael Griffin was placed on injured reserve, with a back injury he said started several days before the Vikings' third preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. Griffin said he got an epidural after the Chargers game and was unable to play Thursday night against the Rams. Griffin said he wasn't sure when he'd be able to return, adding he was getting a second opinion on his back. The Vikings also placed cornerback Jabari Price on IR after he left Thursday's preseason finale with a knee injury.

Vikings' moves: Released DT Kenrick Ellis. Waived G Willie Beavers, WR Moritz Böhringer, T Carter Bykowski, TE Kyle Carter, G Isame Faciane, WR Isaac Fruechte, LB Jake Ganus, RB C.J. Ham, DT Toby Johnson, DE Zach Moore, DE Denzell Perine, RB Jhurell Pressley, DT Travis Raciti, FB Blake Renaud, CB Tre Roberson, QB Brad Sorensen, QB Joel Stave, LB Brandon Watts and DE Stephen Weatherly. Placed S Michael Griffin and CB Jabari Price on injured reserve. Placed QB Taylor Heinicke on reserve/non-football injury list.
