AccuWeather Top 25 forecast: Heavy rains for Texas teams

Texas teams could see the worst of the weather Saturday.

Hurricane Patricia made landfall last night, but even dissipated to a tropical storm, the system could cause heavy rain and flooding in Texas.

Here’s our AccuWeather forecast for games around the country in Week 8:

Iowa State at No. 2 Baylor, noon ET

Locally, heavy rain and perhaps a thunderstorm will impact Waco. The heavy and soaking rainfall will likely keep most from tailgating prior to the game and flooding across the region is a concern. The worst-case scenario is enough flooding around the area that might close some roadways and make traveling to and from the game difficult and slow. A lightning delay is a possibility if a thunderstorm passes over or in the vicinity of McLane Stadium. The turf should be soaked and slippery throughout the game, and players could be more fumble-prone with the wet football. There will be an east to southeast wind of 7-14 mph, which will generally be a crosswind for the players.

Kansas State at Texas, noon ET

It will be a wet game in Austin with frequent showers and thunderstorms moving through during the game. The turf should be wet, slippery and soaked throughout the game, and a wet football could lead to some troubles handling the ball. The heavy rainfall could cause localized flash flooding issues across the region, which could make travel difficult. With a thunderstorm possible, a lightning delay cannot be ruled out at any point during the game. The wind will be from the east at 5-10 mph, so it should not play a huge factor in the game. A kickoff temperature of 72 degrees will rise to 76 by the end of the game. Fans will definitely want to be prepared for this game with appropriate rain gear.

No. 6 Clemson at Miami, noon ET

There will be a mixture of sunshine and clouds this afternoon with a couple of showers in the area during the game. These will be light and lightning is not expected. The showers are not expected to impact play at Sun Life Stadium. The temperature at kickoff will be 82 degrees with a rise to 84 by the end of the game. AccuWeather RealFeel temperatures will be 85 to 87 degrees. Fans should bring sunscreen and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Winds will be east-northeast at 10-20 mph, which will be a crosswind. The gusty winds could have an impact on the kicking game.

Richmond at James Madison, 3:30 ET

It will be a chilly start to the day for "College GameDay" and those fan attending the broadcast with a 7 a.m. temperature of 46 degrees rising to the upper 40s by the start of the broadcast. Temperatures will start in the middle 60s at kickoff and fall to near 60 degrees by the end of the game. The day will start rather cloudy, but sun should break out in the afternoon. The wind will be light from the south to southeast at about 5 mph throughout the game, so it will not be much of a factor in the game. Fans tailgating in the morning prior to the game or attending "College GameDay" will definitely want to have a coat or sweatshirt.

Indiana at No. 7 Michigan State, 3:30 ET

It will be a cloudy, windy and damp afternoon for the game as showers will affect the game throughout. Temperatures will be in the middle 60s at kickoff and then fall to around 60 degrees by the end of the game. Though the rain will not fall steadily during the whole game, there will be a couple of showers that will dampen and slicken the field at times. The wind might play a role in this game as it will be from the southwest at 10-20 mph with higher gusts. A southwest wind will be somewhat at the backs of the players as they drive toward the north end zone of the stadium, and the wind could also blow kicks left to right for teams driving this direction.

Western Kentucky at No. 5 LSU, 7 p.m. ET

A cloudy, mild, and relatively humid evening will meet Tigers fans with temperatures generally hovering in the middle and lower 70s throughout the the game. There will be a light east-southeast wind of 6-12 mph, which acts as a crosswind at Tiger Stadium. Fans will want to have appropriate rain gear as intermittent rain will impact the game, especially by the second half. The wet weather could make the grass damp and slippery at times as well as make it more difficult for players to gain traction and hold onto the ball. However, the rain should generally be light enough that the grass field should not become thoroughly soaked and torn up.

No. 15 Texas A&M at No. 24 Ole Miss, 7 p.m. ET

Oxford, Mississippi, will have a relatively mild, humid and mostly cloudy evening with a kickoff temperature of 73 degrees. Temperatures will slowly fall into the upper 60s by the end of the game. A light wind less than 5 mph will not be a factor. There will be some light rain during the game, with the best chance of this occurring in the second half. The rainfall could be a little heavier by the end of the game. Although a few showers are possible prior to the game and during the first half, wet conditions are likely to hold off until the second. For fans tailgating, it should be cloudy with nothing more than a stray shower or sprinkle and afternoon highs in the upper 70s.
