Los Angeles SPARQ All-Combine team

LOS ANGELES -- More than 1,500 athletes gathered in one the country’s high school football hotbeds Saturday, out to prove that they truly are some of the best prospects out there. Here is a look at the 25 standout performers who make up the Los Angeles Nike SPARQ All-Combine Team.

Note: Selections are based upon combine performance as well as past and projected on-field performance. Athletes must have completed two of the four combine tests to be eligible for selection. Athletes are in the Class of 2014 unless otherwise noted.

OFFENSE

QB Derrick Becker, 5-foot-11, 174 pounds, Olympia (Wash.) Capital

Results: 4.79 40-yard dash, 4.22 shuttle, 38.0-foot power ball throw, 31.9-inch vertical jump, 92.34 SPARQ Rating

Breakdown: Two-year starter has accounted for more than 2,300 yards passing and 25 touchdowns.

RB Aisea Tongilava, 6-0 ½, 204, Orange (Calif.) Lutheran

Results: 4.61 40, 4.37 shuttle, 38.0’ PB, 35.3” VJ, 105.45 SPARQ

Breakdown: Earned an all-league selection in one of Southern California’s toughest leagues.

RB Cole Casper (2015), 5-11, 176, Spanish Fork (Utah) Maple Mountain

Results: 4.53 40, 4.25 shuttle, 36.5’ PB, 35.7” VJ, 104.61 SPARQ

Breakdown: Still has plenty of time but off to a good start with a great performance at the combine.

RB Royce Freeman, 6-0, 216, Imperial (Calif.) High

Results: 4.64 40, 4.40 shuttle, 37.0’ PB, 33.2” VJ, 100.41 SPARQ

Breakdown: Huge junior season with 2,482 yards rushing, leading to offers from schools nationwide.

RB Demario Richard, 5-9, 196, Palmdale (Calif.) High

Results: 4.70 40, 4.33 shuttle, 34.0’ PB, 31.6” VJ, 88.32 SPARQ

Breakdown: Second-team all-state selection by CalHiSports has been offered by multiple schools after rushing for 1,838 yards and 26 scores.

WR Addison Johnson, 5-8 ½, 169, Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) High

Results: 4.50 40, 4.34 shuttle, 35.0’ PB, 39.8” VJ, 104.76 SPARQ

Breakdown: Strong junior campaign with 48 catches for 755 yards and seven touchdowns.

TE Matthew Jacques, 6-2 ½, 198, Encino (Calif.) Crespi

Results: 4.78 40, 4.18 shuttle, 32.0’ PB, 30.1” VJ, 85.83 SPARQ

Breakdown: Versatile pass-catcher can line up anywhere with tremendous combination of speed and size.

OL Adrian Rodriguez (2015), 6-0, 261, Spanish Fork (Utah) High

Results: 5.02 40, 4.72 shuttle, 41' PB, 25.6" VJ, 88.11 SPARQ

Breakdown: Underclassman showed he has more than enough speed and explosiveness to make up for what he lacks in size. Was equally impressive at the Los Angeles Nike Football Training Camp the following day.

OL Darien Haratyck, 6-3.5, 273, Corona (Calif.) Santiago

Results: 5.29 40, 4.72 shuttle, 40.5' PB, 24.3" VJ, 81.93 SPARQ

Breakdown: Strong overall performance was highlighted by second-highest power ball toss for an OL on the day.

OL Jakob Wolfe, 6-4, 241, San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) Junipero Serra

Results: 5.03 40, 4.50 shuttle, 34' PB, 30.8" VJ, 81.27 SPARQ

Breakdown: Rangy prospect has some filling out to do, but he can straight up move. Has the frame to grow into a college tackle.

OL Zachary Robertson (2015), 6-4, 298, Lakewood (Calif.) Mayfair

Results: 5.70 40, 4.83 shuttle, 36.5' PB, 21.2" VJ, 66.12 SPARQ

Breakdown: He already looks the part of a collegiate offensive lineman. A big junior season should make him a hot commodity next year.

OL: Michael Cooper Villegas, 6-3 ½, 295, Tustin (Calif.) High

Results: 5.36 40, 4.98 Shuttle, 35.5' PB, 23.0" VJ, 67.32 SPARQ

Breakdown: Was a 2012 Orange County Register third-team All-Orange County selection.

ATH Rashaad Penny, 5-11.5, 181, Norwalk (Calif.) High

Results: 4.68 40, 4.50 shuttle, 35.0’ PB, 30.6” VJ, 80.40 SPARQ

Breakdown: The All-CIF Southeast Division selection has been offered by UNLV.

DEFENSE

DL Rasheem Green (2015), 6-4.5, 268, Gardena (Calif.) Serra

Results: 5.07 40, 4.94 shuttle, 41.0' PB, 32.2" VJ, 98.10 SPARQ

Breakdown: The story of the weekend. His Nike Combine performance led to a late invite to the Nike Camp, where he continued to shine. On Monday night his performance was rewarded by his first scholarship offer, from UCLA.

DL Grant Thompson, 6-3, 202, Gilbert (Ariz.) Highland

Results: 4.76 40, 4.54 shuttle, 35.5' PB, 30.6" VJ, 81.51 SPARQ

Breakdown: The Division 1 all-state honorable mention pick had the fastest 40 for a defensive lineman on the day.

DL Michael Hughes Jr., 6-2, 280, Las Vegas Palo Verde

Results: 5.18 40, 4.91 shuttle, 37' PB, 25.3" VJ, 74.40 SPARQ

Breakdown: Well-built defensive tackle displayed explosive athleticism for a 280-pound prospect. Reports a Duke offer.

DL Hanani Aiono, 6-4, 257, Salt Lake City Skyline

Results: 5.27 40, 4.59 shuttle, 35.5' PB, 27.2" VJ, 74.25 SPARQ

Breakdown: After missing his junior season due to transferring schools, Aiono used the Nike Combine to make a splash before his senior season.

LB Emmett Tela, 6-0, 211, Provo (Utah) Timpview

Results: 4.97 40, 4.43 shuttle, 34.0’ PB, 34.3” VJ, 84.03 SPARQ

Breakdown: Big junior season with 100 tackles has led to an offer from Hawaii.

LB Nick Como, 6-0 ½, 229, Moreno Valley (Calif.) Canyon Springs

Results: 4.87 40, 4.85 shuttle, 39.0’ PB, 31.5” VJ, 85.20 SPARQ

Breakdown: Has the talent to play at the next level, now just needs to make the most of his opportunities to catch the attention of coaches.

LB Grant Gale, 6-0 ½, 199, Gilbert (Ariz.) Highland

Results: 4.81 40, 4.41 shuttle, 37.0’ PB, 35.5” VJ, 93.81 SPARQ

Breakdown: Productive outside 'backer with 53 tackles and eight sacks in his junior season.

LB Cameron Smith, 6-2, 248, Granite Bay (Calif.) High

Results: 4.86 40, 4.41 shuttle, 34.0’ PB, 31.9” VJ, 92.01 SPARQ

Breakdown: Huge upside for the young prospect who totaled nearly 200 tackles in 16 games, leading his squad to a state championship.

DB Zachary Neil, 5-11, 185, Peoria (Ariz.) High

Results: 4.64 40, 4.15 shuttle, 37.0’ PB, 37.0” VJ, 108.30

Breakdown: An all-state selection in Arizona Republic Division III.

DB Juan Giraldo, 5-11, 180, Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite

Results: 4.64 40, 4.28 shuttle, 35.0’ PB, 34.4” VJ, 94.89 SPARQ

Breakdown: Has all the intangibles to be a lockdown corner.

DB Alijah Holder, 6-1, 165, Oceanside (Calif.) High

Results: 4.65 40, 4.27 shuttle, 35.5’ PB, 32.9” VJ, 90.24 SPARQ

Breakdown: Picked off four passes last season, leading to a second-team All-San Diego North County selection.

DB Matt Criddle, 6-0, 184, American Fork (Utah) Lone Park

Results: 4.74 40, 4.41 shuttle, 36.0’ PB, 36.9” VJ, 93.09 SPARQ

Breakdown: Has the size, speed and toughness to play either safety or corner in college.
