Rookie quarterback Ryan Nassib will finally get a chance to show what he can do with the second-string offense.

For Nassib, it's an opportunity to show what he can do in the final preseason game, and perhaps for the final time this season in a live game. If all goes as planned for the New York Giants, Nassib won't see a single regular-season snap after Thursday night's game at New England.

"Yeah, someone did bring that up to me [the other night]," Nassib said. "It is kind of weird to think about.

"It's just the way the situation is. I'm cool with it. I just have to make sure I take these reps as serious as possible because they might be my only reps for some time. We'll see."

It has been an up and down preseason for Nassib, like it would be for any rookie quarterback. He has completed 3-of-10 passes for 77 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He has been sacked twice in each of his two previous preseason games.

Nassib did not play against the Jets in the third preseason game, as the Giants went with Curtis Painter after Eli Manning. Tom Coughlin hopes to use all his quarterbacks in the preseason finale with Manning playing about 12 to 15 snaps.

"We're going to play all of them," Coughlin said. "We're going to try to play all of them, let's put it that way. [David] Carr would be next [after Manning and Nassib] and then Painter would be next."

During practices in training camp, Nassib has made some impressive passes and shown ability to move out of the pocket. But he also has thrown his share of interceptions.

"I definitely think I've progressed as camp has gone on," Nassib said. "Definitely got a better feel for the system and how to operate. Definitely nowhere near perfect, still have room to improve but every day is a learning experience and every day you have to get better."

The Giants are grooming the quarterback they felt they simply could not pass up on in the fourth round. Barring something unforeseen, Nassib likely is not ready to be the primary and lone backup to Manning. The Giants will likely keep three quarterbacks, with Carr or Painter to back up Manning while Nassib continues to grow.

Carr is the front-runner for the backup job, but Nassib will get a chance to show what he can do with the second team against the Patriots.

"I'm definitely going to have to be ready to go a lot sooner as opposed to the last two, three games," Nassib said of the preseason finale. "[I'm] planning on executing, getting the ball out fast and trying to put some points on the board."

"Being able to go with those guys, I've been with them in practice," Nassib said of the second team. "So I definitely have a little bit better feel with those guys than with some of the newer guys I've been in with in the past. I'm anxious and ready to get out there."
