With a 58-42 win tonight, Stanford Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer became the third coach in Division I history to reach 1,000 career wins, joining Pat Summitt and Mike Krzyzewski. Stats & Info takes a look back at her career.

VanDerveer has the second-most all-time wins among women’s basketball head coaches. She joins Summitt as the only women’s basketball coaches to reach 1,000 career wins. VanDerveer, a two-time Naismith Coach of the Year (1990, 2011), has 11 Final Four appearances in her career (all with Stanford) and two NCAA titles (1990, 1992).

She has coached two Wade Trophy national player of the year award winners (Candice Wiggins in 2007-08 and Jennifer Azzi in 1989-90) and a John Wooden Award winner (Chiney Ogwumike in 2013-14). VanDerveer has also coached two WNBA No. 1 overall draft picks in Nneka Ogwumike in 2012 and Chiney Ogwumike in 2014. Nneka Ogwumike was named the 2016 WNBA MVP.

VanDerveer’s teams have reached the 20-win mark in 32 of her seasons as head coach. That trails only C. Vivian Stringer (34) and Summitt (36) for most 20-win seasons among Division I head coaches.

She has coached Stanford to 848 of its 1,024 wins, meaning she’s coached approximately 83 percent of the Cardinal’s wins.

VanDerveer’s 1,000th win comes almost eight years to the day that Summitt earned hers. Tennessee beat Georgia on Feb. 5, 2009, for Summitt's 1,000th victory. VanDerveer faced Summitt 28 times, winning six meetings. They last coached opposite one another on Dec. 20, 2011, in a 97-80 Stanford win.

But she has not only made her mark at the college level. During her illustrious career, VanDerveer has also coached Team USA to a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics.
