It has been an interesting recruiting cycle for the state of Florida. New coaches at Florida and Florida State are still trying to build the teams they want, and sometimes there are growing pains that come along with that. In a state like Florida, where there is a ton of talent, those growing pains often stick out.
In this 2019 recruiting cycle, there are 44 ESPN 300 prospects in Florida. Sixteen of those recruits have yet to announce their decisions.
Among the top in-state recruits who have announced commitments, seven are pledged to the Seminoles, which is the most of any team. Four are committed to Miami, three to Georgia and two apiece to Clemson, Florida and Oregon. Eight other schools hold one commitment from an ESPN 300 prospect out of Florida.
There are still quite a few big names left, though, and some will be signing in the early signing period (Dec. 19-21). That will give some of the in-state schools a shot at bolstering their classes and adding more talent to the roster.
The top uncommitted recruit is the No. 2 prospect in the state, running back Trey Sanders. He and IMG Academy teammate offensive tackle Evan Neal are both announcing their commitments on ESPN on Dec. 19.
Both top-40 prospects are former Alabama commits. Both decommitted from the Tide, but oddly enough, could end up back in Alabama's class in a couple of weeks. Neal is being targeted by nearly everyone and has visited Alabama, Florida State and Oklahoma. He has also been hearing from Georgia and Miami.
