Idaho, New Mexico State out of Sun Belt after 2017

Idaho and New Mexico State will no longer be Sun Belt football only members after the 2017 season, sources told ESPN.

Both schools were on a four-year term as Sun Belt football only members and the league voted not to give the schools an extension as league members, a source said.

The two schools were former members of the Western Athletic Conference until the WAC disbanded in 2012. The Vandals and Aggies then played as independents in 2013 before receiving a four-year team in the Sun Belt as football only members in 2014.

Idaho and New Mexico State had identical 4-12 records in the past two seasons in Sun Belt play. Both schools were 3-5 last year in league play and 1-7 in their inaugural season in 2014.
