A&M assistant disciplined for tweets after Tate Martell reversal

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M assistant Aaron Moorehead has been disciplined for posting a series of tweets last week about loyalty and accountability after a highly touted quarterback recruit announced he was breaking a verbal commitment to the Aggies, head coach Kevin Sumlin said Monday.

Sumlin said in a statement Monday that Moorehead "abused the privilege of social media and the result reflected poorly" on Moorehead, the football team and the school.

A few minutes after Tate Martell from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas tweeted Wednesday night that he was reopening his recruitment, Moorehead posted, "I feel sorry for ppl who never understand loyalty."

Moorehead followed with more critical tweets, though he never named Martell. Soon after, another Aggies recruit, receiver Mannie Netherly, posted on Twitter that he also was reversing his commitment.

Sumlin's statement Monday also said that Moorehead "has apologized publicly and privately for his actions."

"I am confident that he understands the expectations moving forward," Sumlin said. "However, there are consequences for actions and Aaron has been disciplined and the details will remain private. We will use this as a learning tool for all of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, and we are now moving forward as a program."
